This exclusive, vintage Maiogi Dance Fan was made by Hosendou
寶扇堂,
one of Tokyo's most renown fan makers
.
The motif is striking
gold & indigo
gradated lateral stripes on a shimmery white background
.
The struts are amber lacquered bamboo with lead weights. This was clearly a very costly item when originally purhcased. This would be lovely for dance practice or just for
display
.
It came from a collection of vintage fans we have
acquired that are all of superior quality and design and were clearly owned by someone of discerning taste
, who was associated with the famous Japanese Buyo Dance company

Fujisen-Ryu of Meguro, Tokyo
. Most seem to have been made in the 1970’s to 1980’s
. This fan is in perfect condition with no age-related discoloration, fraying or bent corners and appears never to have been used. Box has had minor repairs.
The first two photos show the front and back. It measures about 20” or 51cm across when open and is about 11½” or 29cm long when closed.

Note that due to reduced flights, JAPAN POST has suspended Air Parcel service to the USA, Australia and a few other countries (Europe is not effected). It is not known how long this will last but in the meantime, we are using JAPAN POST SURFACE mail which has tracking and insurance but can take about 60 days to the USA.
Alternatively, for an additional charge, YAMATO INTERNATIONAL offers extremely fast door to door service for a flat-rate for their various size boxes. The smallest “60cm” box is to most countries, can hold up to two kg and measures 27 X 19 X 19cm and arrives in about a week.
