VERY RARE 1975 Born to Run 3-D Cardboard Mobile
used in record stores to promote
Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run album.
IMPORTANT: BEFORE READING FURTHER, PLEASE KNOW THAT THIS DOUBLE SIDED 3-D MOBILE IS NOT IN GOOD CONDITION!! I WILL NOTE THE MANY FLAWS AND MISSING PART LATER IN THIS LISTING, AND ASK THAT YOU PLEASE LOOK AT ALL THE PHOTOS AND READ THE DESCRIPTION BEFORE BIDDING OR BUYING!! THE VALUE OF THIS DOUBLE-SIDED 3-D PIECE LIES IN ITS BEING SO EXTREMELY RARE 40+ YEARS LATER, RATHER THAN ITS CONDITION WHICH IS POOR. I BOUGHT THIS IN 1976 FROM A RECORD STORE MANAGER, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ALREADY IN POOR CONDITION. IT WAS A REMARKABLE PIECE AND I HAD TO HAVE IT FOR MY COLLECTION, FLAWS OR NOT, BECAUSE IT WAS VERY, VERY COOL. I LOVE THIS PIECE OF PROMOTIONAL ARTWORK, BUT IT IS TIME TO LET IT GO.
INFORMATION ON THIS VERY RARE ITEM:
Columbia Records created this 3-dimensional black & white mobile for the 1975 release of Springsteen's breakthrough album "Born to Run". Cardboard cutout of Bruce with guitar (and sneakers) against an abstract out -of -focus downtown NYC . A great piece, meant to hang from the ceiling, displaying image on both sides, measures 16.5 x 22.5". Many record store managers removed Bruce from the backdrop, and used his image alone to promote the album. Posters were also made from this complete image and backdrop. This is NOT a poster. It is the double-sided 3-D mobile
FLAWS IN THIS PIECE: SIDE A: THE NECK OF THE GUITAR IS HELD ON BY TAPE IN TWO PLACES, OTHERWISE THE GUITAR PIECES WOULD FALL OFF. THE UPPER LEFT CORNER HAS TWO LARGE CREASES. THE HOLE FOR HANGING THE PIECE IS AT THE TOP, CENTER. THERE IS A CREASE AT THE TOP OF HIS HEAD. THE ENTIRE RIGHT EDGE HAS MANY NICKS AND SCRAPES. HIS PANTS ARE NOT COMPLETELY BLACK, AS THERE ARE SOME SCRAPE MARKS. SIDE B: THE END OF THE GUITAR IS MISSING, HAVING BEEN LOST YEARS AGO BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. THE TWO CREASES ARE NOW ON THE UPPER RIGHT SIDE OF THE BACKDROP. THERE ARE SOME SCRAPES WHERE THE "VAN IS PARKED." HIS SHIRT IS NOT COMPLETELY BLACK, AS IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN SCRAPED.
IF YOU BUY THIS EXTREMELY RARE ITEM, YOU ARE BUYING IT NOT BECAUSE OF ITS CONDITION, BUT BECAUSE IT PLAYED AN IMPORTANT PART IN THE HISTORY AND MARKETING OF THE BORN TO RUN ALBUM, AND IT IS A VERY COOL PIECE TO OWN.
